CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College women's basketball team loss 80-61 to in-state foe University of the Ozarks at Grove Gymnasium on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 0-3 on the young season, while the Lady Eagles improve to 1-2.
Trailing 23-15 with 8:14 left in the first half, the Warriors rattled off a 10-2 run, capped by a lay-up by junior guard
Tiffany Hubbard, to tie the game 25-25 with 3:28 remaining. Ozarks answered with a 13-2 run to end the period to take a 38-27 lead into the break. The Lady Eagles went on to outscore the Warriors 42-34 in the second half and would lead by as many as 21 points.
For the game, Hendrix shot 36 percent (24-of-66) from the field and 23 percent (5-of-22) from three-point territory. Ozarks shot 47 percent (28-of-60) from the floor and 33 percent (5-of-15) from outside the arc. They also went 19-of-22 from the charity stripe, while the Warriors were just 8-of-17.
Hendrix outrebounded Ozarks 41-39.
Junior center
Jamie Tate paced the Warriors with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler scored 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and dished out four assists. Hubbard registered a season-best 13 points and freshman
Katy Gallien had five points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior
Katie Coughran added six points and six rebounds.
Jordyn Ferrell led Ozarks with 26 points, going 14-of-14 from the free throw line, and 11 boards to go with five assists. Chelsea Glasscock recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Tamara Wilkett also came up with 12 points and seven boards. Taylor Farmer added nine points and four blocks.
Hendrix will compete in the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament in Wilmington, Ohio against Saint Vincent on Saturday.
