Warriors Fall to Colonels in SAA Semifinals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College field hockey ended their season with a 4-2 loss to Centre College in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Semifinals on Saturday afternoon. The third-seeded Warriors conclude the season with a 6-9 record, while the #2 Colonels advance to the finals against host Rhodes with a 9-7 mark.

Centre took an early lead when Courtney Kuiper scored on a Chelsea Klein pass in the fifth minute. Hendrix sophomore Lotte Kraaijenbrink tied the game with her third goal of the year in the 21st minute. Klein scored on a Kuiper assist in the 32nd minute to put the Colonels up 2-1.

In the second half, Centre tacked on goals from Samantha Aguiar and Erin Mays in the 58th and 62nd minutes, respectively. Hendrix sophomore Morgan Fires added a final goal in the 64th minute on a pass from senior defender Maggie DesPain. The assist was the school-record 15th in DesPain's career.

For the game, the Colonels outshot the Warriors 19-10 and had a 14-8 shots on goal advantage.

Hendrix sophomore Betsy Kelly recorded eight saves in goal. Junior defender Elizabeth Lancaster recorded two defensive saves, setting a new school record with six on the season. CeCe Lindsey registered six saves for Centre.

The game was the final in the career of two Warrior seniors - DesPain and forward Kelly Rappe'.
