CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College Track & Field broke or tied four school records at the UCA Open at the Bill Stephens Track Complex on Saturday.
Junior Andres Ramirez of Dallas broke his own 3,000 meter steeplechase record by nearly seven seconds, placing second with a time of 9:56.86. The 4x100 meter relay team of Carlton Leding, Cameron Mosley, David Spriewald and Keegan Whicker tied the two-year old record with a time of 44.91 seconds, finishing seventh.
The same relay quartet took fifth in the 4x400 with a mark of 3:42.15. Spriewald, of Marburg, Germany, finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.49 seconds and was fourth with a season-best javelin toss of 50.93 meters (167 ft.-7.5 in.).
Junior Micah Cothren of Heber Springs, Ark. also registered a season-best time of 4:08.29 in the 1,500 meters, finishing seventh, and was 19th in the 800 meters in 2:09.04.
Leding, a junior, ran the 100 meter dash in 11.37 and the 200 in 23.00, placing 13th and 26th, respectively. Whicker finished 20th with a season-best time of 53.08 seconds in the 400 meters.
For the women, sophomore Elizabeth Krug of Heber Springs broke her own school record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds, placing ninth. She also tied her school pole vault mark of 3.20 meters (10 ft.-6 in.), placing fourth. Krug also finished sixth in the 400 meter dash with a season-best 59.50 sec.
Junior Lindsey Wiggin took fifth place in the hammer throw at 37.74 meters (117 ft.-3.25 in.), 10th in the discus at 30.25 meters (99 ft.-3.25 in.) and 10th in the shot with a season best throw of 10.28 meters (33 ft.-8.75 in.).
Junior Stephanie Davenport also recorded a season-best 3,000 meter steeplechase time of 13:19.68, finishing fourth. Senior Bridget O'Shaughnessy took eighth in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5 ft.-1 in.).
Sophomore Adrie Henry placed 12th in the 100 meter dash in 15.42 sec. and freshman Tiatjah Johnson was 13th in the 200 meters in 26.61 sec.
The UCA Open was the final tune-up for the Warriors before the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Birmingham, Ala. beginning Friday.
