GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Hendrix College field hockey opened the 2012 campaign with a 2-0 loss to Denison University at Piper Stadium on Friday evening. The host Big Red (1-0), who were the top team receiving votes in the national Top 20 poll, outshot the Warriors (0-1) 23-4.

The game was scoreless for most of the first half until Taylor Bacon found the cage from 13 meters out with 2:28 left in the period. Molly Chapman added another goal for DU in the 65th minute.

Sophomore forward Erika Jasso led Hendrix with two shots, one of which was on goal. Sophomore Lotte Kraaijenbrink and Maggie DesPain also took a shot on goal each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Betsy Kelly picked up seven saves for the Warriors. Big Red keeper Brittany Benson had three saves in the shutout effort.

Hendrix will travel to Richmond, Ind. on Saturday for a game at Earlham College.
