CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College men's soccer team will host the Warrior Classic at Warrior Field this weekend. Hendrix will open the tournament with Simpson College on Friday at 7 p.m. and conclude with the University of Texas at Tyler on Sunday at 2 p.m. On Saturday, Simpson and UT Tyler will tangle at 6 p.m.

Warrior head coach Doug Mello has a special tie to Friday's contest. Storm head coach Rick Isaacson was an All-Region goalkeeper for Mello at Luther College. Mello, who has won 701 career games, coached Luther's men's and women's squads for 18 years and won 459 games combined.

Mello has coached more than 50 current collegiate coaches plus numerous high school and club coaches. In his former league, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Mello coached Isaacson, Buena Vista's men's head coach Marc Baumbach, Luther's women's head coach Russell Shoeweiler, Cornell's head women's coach Kirstin Russell, Luther's women's assistant Julie Shockey, Luther's men's assistant Dave Keller, Wartburg's men's assistant Leif Madson and Wartburg's women's assistant Kyle Nelson.

Mello also coached Miriam Kronienberg Hickey, a coach of the Netherlands' national team, and Michael Kim, a coach for South Korea.

UT Tyler enters the weekend with a 3-1 record and are ranked fourth in the NSCAA West Region. Simpson is 4-2.

Hendrix boasts a 4-0-1 record and a consecutive scoreless streak of 470 minutes to start the season.
