LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hendrix College field hockey team started the Southern Athletic Association schedule with a 5-0 victory at Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors (3-1, 1-0) picked up their third straight win by outshooting the Pioneers (0-5, 0-1) 26-6 and 18-2 on goal.
Junior defender Elizabeth Lancaster put Hendrix up two minutes into the game with a goal from five yards out after a pass by senior forward Kelly Rappe'. Sophomore Dani Coley scored her second goal of the season in the sixth minute and sophomore Lotte Kraaijenbrink scored with an assist from senior Maggie DesPain in the 33rd minute to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Rappe' assisted an Erika Jasso goal in the 43rd minute and DesPain found the cage in the 66th minute with an assist from Lancaster to give Hendrix the 5-0 win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Betsy Kelly picked up two saves for her third consecutive shutout. TU keeper Sara Aschbacher had eight saves in 43 minutes and Katie Jackel had five in 27 minutes.
Hendrix will face another SAA opponent on Sunday when they travel to Centre College in Danville, Ky.
