CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College volleyball team suffered a 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 loss to Birmingham-Southern College in Southern Athletic Association play at Grove Gymnasium on Saturday. The visiting Panthers (6-4, 2-0) outhit the Warriors (3-8, 1-2) .250 to .133 and had a 45-29 kills advantage.
After falling in the first two sets, Hendrix jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the third, but BSC answered with 14-2 run to take control of the game.
The Panthers also recorded eight aces, 52 digs and four blocks, while the Warriors had five aces, 53 digs and three blocks.
Senior Melissa Clement led Hendrix with nine kills and also had two block assists. Senior right side Katie Bates added seven kills and junior Katie Burchfield and sophomore Carson Hunter each had five. Freshman setter Breanna Wright registered 20 assists, two aces and a season-high seven digs. Sophomore libero Ella Concavage-Nasar led all players with 17 digs.
Meredith Lee led the Panthers with 13 kills and hit .522. Alex Bothe had 11 kills and eight digs and setter Lauren Reibe recorded 36 assists and eight digs. Lauren Bedford led the defense with 14 digs.
Hendrix will go on the road to face conference foe Berry College in Georgia on Friday.
