Centre Tops Hendrix

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Hendrix College men's basketball team suffered their worst loss of the year, falling to Centre College 80-43 at Alumni Gymnasium on Friday night. The Colonels (13-3, 6-1), who entered the game tied for second place in the Southern Athletic Association, opened the game with 31-4 lead in the first 11 and a half minutes and did not look back.

The Warriors (6-12, 1-6) trailed at halftime 38-21. Centre outscored Hendrix 42-22 in the second period.

For the game, the Colonels shot 51 percent (28-of-55) from the field, 10-of-23 from the three-point line and 14-of-15 at the free throw line. The Warriors shot 32 percent (17-of-54), 4-of-16 from outside and 5-of-14 at the stripe. Centre held a 38-32 rebound advantage.

Junior forward Colton Primm led Hendrix with eight points to go with five rebounds. Sophomore forward Luke Vance had eight rebounds. Jaren Riley had seven points and Nathan McCubbins scored six. Freshman guard Jordan Barrett scored four points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and recorded a block and a season-best four steals.

Bryon Ellis paced the Colonels with 16 points and Collin Lopez had 14 points off the bench, hitting four three-pointers. Josh Karsner and Holden Hertzel added 10 points each. Donavan Whiteside had nine points and five steals.

Hendrix will take on SAA rival Sewanee – The University of the South in a road contest on Sunday.
