Colonels Defeat Warriors in Kentucky

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Hendrix College women's basketball team lost to Centre College 67-55 in Southern Athletic Association action at Alumni Gymnasium on Friday night. The visiting Warriors (0-18, 0-7) shot 42 percent (24-of-57) on the night, their second-best effort of the season, while the Colonels (8-9, 6-1), who were tied for second in the league coming into Friday, shots 39 percent (27-of-70). Centre however held a 50-30 rebound edge, including 17-3 in offensive boards.

Centre built a 37-24 halftime lead, but Hendrix opened the second half with a 14-2 run to cut the lead to 39-38 with 16:36 to play. The Warriors went 7-for-7 during that stretch, getting six points each from juniors Jamie Tate and Katie Coughran.

The Colonels answered with an 8-2 run to go up 47-40 with 13:42 remaining. Centre would lead by at least four throughout the rest of the contest.

Hendrix went 2-of-12 from three-point range and 5-of-10 from the free throw line, while Centre was 6-of-13 and 7-of-10.

Tate led the Warriors with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Freshman guard Cailtin Kriesel-Bigler scored 14 points and recorded four steals. Coughran finished with seven points, two blocks and two steals and freshman forward Katy Gallien had six points, six boards and two blocks off the bench.

Chelsea Benham led the Colonels with 29 points on 13-of-22 shooting and 17 rebounds. Paige Baechle had 13 points and 16 rebounds and Hillary Moore scored 13. Mary Winstead dished out four assists.

Hendrix will return to action on Sunday when they take on Sewanee – The University of the South in the Volunteer State.
