Warriors Mount Come Back against Jackets

LONGVIEW, Texas - The Hendrix College men's basketball team overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to defeat LeTourneau University 54-52 at Solheim Arena on Friday night.

Trailing 32-19 at the break, the Warriors (2-1) outscored the YellowJackets (0-1) 35-20 in the second half. Hendrix also cut down on their turnovers in the second period, after committing 16 in the opening half, they only made eight miscues in the second.

After a bucket from senior forward Colton Primm put the Warriors up 51-45 with 5:06 to play, LeTourneau fought back to regain a 52-51 lead with 1:36 left. A pair of Primm free throws with 22 seconds left put Hendrix back ahead 53-52. Sophomore guard Hank Aldous hit the second of two free throws with eight seconds remaining for the two point lead. Chad Williams jumper on the last possession was short, giving the Warriors their second win in the first three games of the year.

For the game, Hendrix shot 39 percent (19-of-49) from the field, 4-of-12 from three-point range and 12-of-16 at the free throw line. LeTourneau shot 36 percent (21-of-58), 3-of-14 from outside and 7-of-14 at the stripe. The Warriors held a big advantage on the boards, 42-29.

Primm paced the Orange & Black with 14 points and three assists. Junior forward Luke Vance had 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Drew Nikolovski hit three outside shots for nine points to go with a career-best seven boards. Aldous finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Sophomore point guard Jordan Taulton dished out three assists.

Ladaria Brown led the Jackets with 11 points and Justin Jones had nine points and 11 rebounds. Williams had six points, six rebounds and five blocks.

Hendrix will travel to UT Tyler for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday.
