LONGVIEW, Texas - In a game of big runs, the Hendrix College women's basketball lost to LeTourneau University 75-55 at Solheim Arena on Friday night.
The host YellowJackets (2-0) built up a 25-8 lead over the first 13:32 of the game and would take a 34-21 lead into the half. The Warriors (1-2) outscored the Jackets 22-7 to open the second period to go up 43-41 with 11:44 to play. LeTourneau answered by ending the game on a 34-12 run, winning by 20.
The Jackets shot 37 percent (26-of-70) from the field, 3-of-15 from three-point range and 20-of-29 at the free throw line. Hendrix shot 30 percent (17-of-56) overall, 5-of-19 from outside and 16-of-29 at the line. LeTourneau had half as many turnovers (20-10) and a 50-49 rebound advantage.
Freshman forward
Anna King led the Warriors with 17 points and a season-best 13 rebounds for her first career double-double. Sophomore point guard Caitlin Krisel-Bigler had 14 points, making four three-pointers. Senior center
Jamie Tate had nine points and pulled down 12 boards. Freshman guard Petyon Hurst added nine points and freshman guard
Melanie Martin came off the bench for five assists.
Andrea Ashley had 12 points and seven boards and Ashley Fajardo had 12 points and five assists to lead LeTourneau. Julencia Curtis had 11 points, two blocks and two steals and Alexis Wighaman added 10 points.
Hendrix will travel to UT Tyler on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
