CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team lead by a point with 1:01 left to play, but could not hang on the lead, falling to Austin College 70-66 at Grove Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
The visiting 'Roos (2-3) took a 31-30 lead into halftime, then expanded their lead to seven points with 16:38 to play. The Warriors (2-4) answered with a 21-6 run, going up 57-49 at the 9:11 mark. Jamie Tate free throw put Hendrix up 66-65 with 1:01 left. On the next possession Brittany Stepanski scored a basket to go up 67-66. After a Warrior miss, Christina Kime hit a pair of free throws to go up 69-66 with 15 seconds left. Hendrix missed a pair of three-pointers on their end and Erin Riley was fouled on the rebound and made one-of-two shots with two seconds left to secure the win.
For the game Hendrix shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58), 3-of-11 from three-point range and 17-of-27 at the free throw line. Austin shot 35.8 percent (24-of-67), 5-of-16 from outside and 17-of-21 from the stripe. The 'Ross held a 48-35 rebound advantage.

Stepanski led Austin with 18 points and Kime finished with 13 and four assists. Riley had 12 points and 10 rebounds and and Brooke Melton had 11 points andd 11 boards.
Hendrix will open Southern Athletic Association play on Wednesday when they host #20 Rhodes College at 6 p.m.
