CONWAY, Ark. – After winning their last two games, the Hendrix College women's basketball streak was halted by Centre College 78-56 at Grove Gymnasium on Friday night. With one regular season game left, the Warriors (3-21) are in a tie with Oglethorpe at 3-10 for the sixth seed at next weekend's Southern Athletic Association Tournament. The Colonels (13-10) are tied for second with Millsaps at 11-2 and trail Rhodes at 12-1.
Centre led by as many as 11 in the opening period, before taking a 38-30 halftime lead. The Colonels piled on in the second half and led by as many as 25.
For the game, Hendrix shot 39 percent (22-of-56) and were 2-of-18 from three-point range and 10-of-15 at the free throw line. Centre shot 50 percent (29-of-58) overall, 3-of-12 from outside and 17-of-20 at the line. The Colonels also had a 36-30 rebound advantage.
The Warriors were led by junior center
Jamie Tate who had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the year. Junior forward
Katie Coughran added 10 points and two assists. Freshman guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler was held to seven points and four assists and junior guard
Kaitlin McNeill came off the bench for six points and five boards.
Maggie Hartlage paced Centre with 11 points on 10-of-11 shooting and six rebounds. Paige Beachle had 15 points and Chelsea Benham scored 12. Mary Stough came off the bench to add 13 points.
Hendrix will wrap up the regular season at home on Sunday against Sewanee – The University of the South.
