Hendrix Rains Threes on Oglethorpe

CONWAY, Ark. – Freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler tied the school record with eight three-pointers made, and the team tied the mark with 14 as the Hendrix College women's basketball team defeated Oglethorpe University 78-73 in Southern Athletic Association action at home Friday night. Kriesel-Bigler, from Austin, Texas, went 8-of-14 from outside, tying Casey Collins mark set against Ozarks (Ark.) on Jan. 6, 1996.

As a team, the Warriors (2-20, 2-9) shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24), the third best percentage in school history. The 14 threes made ties the school record set against Millsaps on Jan. 16, 2000.

In the first half, the Lady Petrels (5-17, 3-8) got out to a 32-22 lead with 4:50 remaining in the period. Hendrix finished the half on a 15-5 run, tying the game at 37-37 at the break.

The Warriors built a 73-63 lead with 3:37 remaining on Kriesel-Bigler's record-tying trey. OU fought back to cut the lead to 75-73 with 1:28 to play. Hendrix put the game away on a pair of free throws by junior forward Katie Coughran and a free throw from freshman forward Katy Gallien in the final 19 seconds of the game.

The Warriors put up their best shooting effort of the year, hitting 45.8 percent (27-of-59) of their shots. They also went 10-of-15 at the free throw line. The Lady Petrels shot 48 percent (29-of-60) overall, 9-of-18 from outside and 6-of-12 at the line. Hendrix held a big 41-27 rebounding advantage.

Kriesel-Bigler netted a season-high 29 points to go with five assists and three steals. Junior center Jamie Tate scored 12 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the year. Gallien finished with seven points and a season-best 10 assists. Coughran added 10 points and eight boards, and guards Kati Broberg and Estrella Flores each went 3-for-5 from three-point range, scoring nine points apiece.

Gabby Cole made six three-pointers for OU, on her way to 28 points. Sarah Giles had 17 points and seven rebounds and Kalin Williams scored 14 points to go with seven steals.

Hendrix will host SAA-rival Berry College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
