Hendrix Starts Season 4-0

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College volleyball team finished their Labor Day Invitational with a 4-0 record as they swept Centenary College of Louisiana 25-14, 25-11, 25-21 and Lyon College 25-20, 25-16, 25-23 at Grove Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The 4-0 start to the season is the best since the program moved to NCAA Division III in 1992.

Against the Ladies (1-2), the Warriors (4-0) hit .440 with 41 kills, eight aces, 29 digs and five blocks. Centenary hit .147 with 26 kills, three aces, 25 digs and one block.

Freshman middle blocker Jen Karnes led Hendrix with eight kills and no errors on nine attempts for an .889 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter MC Rogers also had eight kills and hit .583. Freshman Samantha Stockdale came off the bench to add five kills and senior Katie Burchfield had five kills and a team-high 13 digs. Freshman setter Allison Gaia registered 18 assists.

The Ladies were led by Brooke Bahlinger with seven kills and eight digs and Sarah Sumner with seven kills and three aces. Beth Nuttall had 22 assists.

In the nightcap against the Scots (2-4), the Warriors hit .317 with 37 kills, nine aces, 39 digs and 14 blocks. Lyon managed just 27 kills and hit .042 with 10 aces, 31 digs and two blocks.

Karnes once again led the way with eight kills and nine total blocks. Burchfield had seven kills and eight digs and Rogers came up with seven kills of her own. The Hendrix right side tandem of freshman Natalie Masten and junior Carson Hunter combined for 13 kills and nine total blocks. Gaia had 17 kills and junior libero Ella Concavage-Nasar came up with 16 digs.

Gina Reed and Carson Ward had six kills each for the Scots. Hailey Watson had seven digs and Ferrin Macon had 21 assists.

Hendrix will compete in the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
