THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Hendrix College volleyball team lost a pair of extremely close matches on the first day of the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational on Friday. The Warriors (4-2) lost to Pomona-Pitzer 26-24, 25-22, 25-23 in the opener, then fell to Texas Lutheran University 25-21, 25-23, 15-25, 25-23.
Against the Sagehens (4-1), the Warriors hit .206 with 36 kills, four aces, 37 digs and seven blocks. Hendrix struggled in the serve game, coming up with just four aces and committing 12 service errors.
Freshman right side hitter
Natalie Masten hit .562 with nine kills and no errors. Freshman outside hitter
MC Rogers recorded nine kills, 10 digs and four block assists. Freshman middle blocker
Grace Griffin had four kills and five block assists and freshman setter
Allison Gaia had 14 assists and nine digs.
Against the Bulldogs (4-1), Hendrix hit .188 with 42 kills, three aces, 52 digs and 15.5 blocks.
Rogers had 14 kills, six digs and eight total blocks. Freshman middle blocker
Jen Karnes connected on eight kills with five blocks and Masten had eight kills and four blocks and Griffin posted eight blocks. Junior
Ella Concavage-Nasar led the defense with 15 digs and Gaia had 15 assists and eight blocks.
Hendrix will wrap up their California trip with Redlands and Occidental on Saturday.
