CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team fell to Centre College 66-49 at Grove Gymnasium on Friday night.
The visiting Colonels (12-6, 6-1) remain in a first place tie with Rhodes in the Southern Athletic Association. The Warriors fall to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Hendrix struggled in the first half, shooting just 21.9 percent (7-of-32), while Centre shot a scorching 58.3 percent (14-of-24) to take a 39-20 lead into the break. A three-pointer by freshman guard
Taylor Neal with 11:12 left to play cut the deficit to 47-37, but the Colonels went on a 18-6 run to move the lead to 22 and out of reach for the Warriors.
For the game, Hendrix shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the field, 6-of-20 from three-point range and 9-of-13 at the free throw line. Centre shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the floor, 2-of-13 from outside and 18-of-24 at the line. The Colonels also held a 43-35 rebounding edge.
Sophomore point guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler led the Warriors with 13 points and four assists. Neal finished with 12 points and three assists. Senior center
Jamie Tate recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds and tied her career-high with three blocked shots.
Paige Beachle paced Centre with 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Alexis Guy scored 16 points and had seven boards and Mary Gordon Stough finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Hendrix will return to action on Sunday when they host Sewanee - The University of the South at 1 p.m.
