ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Hendrix College volleyball team split a pair of results on Saturday at the Bears Invitational hosted by Washington University (Mo.). The Warriors fell to the host #5 Washington University 3-0 but bounced back with a 3-2 win over Transylvania University.Against #5 Washington University, the Warriors played right with one of the top teams in the nation in the first set, but were overpowered by the Bears' offense. As a team, the hosts hit for a .398 hitting percentage with 47 kills and only 10 errors through the three-set match. Hendrix was held to a .150 hitting percentage with just 28 kills. Freshman
Bradi Ryan led the way for the Warriors with 12 kills and a .310 hitting percentage, while
MC Rogers chipped in with eight kills.
Allison Gaia and
Holyn Duyck had 12 and 10 assists, respectively, while
Felicia Beeman led the Warriors with 11 digs.Â
Against Transylvania, Hendrix jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-21. The Pioneers evened things up with a pair of set wins in the third and fourth, taking them 25-19 and 25-16. In the fifth set, Hendrix took an 11-5 lead and never looked back. The team fed
Bradi Ryan for their final three kills of the match to wrap up with a 15-11 win in the fifth to earn the 3-2 victory.
Ryan finished with 17 kills and Rogers added a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs.
Samantha Stockdale added six blocks for the Warriors and served up a pair of aces as well.Â
Transylvania's Erin Romito led all hitters with 31 kills for the match, the most by any single opponent against Hendrix this season. The outside hitter also came away with 14 digs and a block for the Pioneers.
After recording 41 kills in three matches over the weekend,
Bradi Ryan was named to the Bears Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Hendrix finishes their regular season with a program-best 26-6 mark, including a 12-2 record in the Southern Athletic Association. The squad will host the SAA Tournament, beginning on Friday, November 7. The top-seeded Warriors will take on the eighth-seeded Rhodes College Lynx in the quarterfinal round.
