Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors Clipped in Overtime

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team had opportunities to put the game away, but ended up falling 76-72 in overtime to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday evening at Grove Gym.

The Warriors owned the offensive glass, snagging 15 offensive rebounds for 21 second chance points. Luke Vance finished with a career-high 22 points and collected eight rebounds while Alec Conard registered his second consecutive double-double scoring 13 and ripping 15 boards. Hank Aldous added 18 points for the Warriors as the home team fell to their second loss of the season. Gabe Gumm snatched up a personal best seven rebounds and dished off eight assists.

The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured 12 lead changes, including five in the final four minutes of regulation. After falling behind by 10 in the early going, Hendrix battled back to take a 29-27 lead with 1:29 remaining in the first half, but went into the locker room trailing by one.

After the break, the Warriors came out of the locker room on fire, opening the frame by shooting 5-of-6 from the floor to take a 41-32 lead with 15:28 remaining. Hank Aldous led the charge with a pair of three-pointers while Luke Vance and Jordan Barrett attacked the rim for layups to give the Warriors their largest lead of the game. The Patriots continued to battle, tying the game at 57-57 with 3:47 remaining.

In the final four minutes, the Warriors and Patriots traded buckets, swapping leads until Aldous cashed in a layup off an assist from Gabe Gumm with 1:35 left. After a missed shot by UT Tyler, Hendrix added to their lead by feeding Vance in the paint. The team's lone senior mustered up a layup to give the Warriors a 65-62 lead with 39 seconds to go. The Patriots responded with a clutch game-tying three-pointer from Chris Rios with 30 seconds left. On the final possession of the game, the Warriors turned the ball over before they could muster a shot and the game was sent to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Patriots opened the frame with a long-distance field goal from Stephon Hall to go up three and never trailed from that point. The Warriors pressed for the game-tying field goal, but UT Tyler finished the game off by going 4-for-4 from the foul line to seal the victory.

Hendrix falls to 2-2 on the year and will return to action on Wenesday, December 3 when they travel to Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes College to take on the Lynx in their first conference game of the season.
