CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's soccer season came to a close after a 4-2 loss to Millsaps College in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament at Warrior Field on Friday afternoon.
The Warriors (3-15-1) held the top-seeded Majors (13-5) scoreless in the first half. Chris Lawrence finally broke the tie with a free kick that deflected off the Hendrix wall in the 55th minute to put Millsaps on the board. Just 2:25 later, Lukas Elmhammar fired a through ball to Nicolas Roth, who kicked it in net to the right of the goal.
Sophomore
Ryan Stanowski cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 61st minute when he knocked in a rebound. Five minutes later, the Majors took a 3-1 lead with Elmhammar scoring on a Daniel Staursky rebound.
Hendrix junior midfielder
Jacob Pierce made the game 3-2 in the 68th minute on a penalty kick. The score was the third of the season for the Fulton, Mo. native.
Roth added an insurance goal with just under two minutes left, with an assist from Javier Garcia.
The Majors outshot the Warriors 33-8 overall and 9-5 in shots on goal. Freshman keeper
Nathan Myers had five saves for Hendrix and Johnathan Huebbe stopped three shots for Millsaps.
