CONWAY, Ark. - In front of a raucous home crowd, the Hendrix College volleyball team advanced to their second straight Southern Athletic Association Tournament final with a 3-1 win over Centre College on Saturday afternoon in Grove Gymnasium.
Bradi Ryan finished with 18 kills, earning a .429 hitting percentage for the Warriors while
MC Rogers notched 15 and
Sara Dyslin chipped in with 12 at a .500 hitting clip.
Holyn Duyck led the team with 31 assists on the day while
Allison Gaia dished off 24.
Felicia Beeman finished with a match-best 18 digs while Rogers earned a double-double with 11.
Centre started out the match with a hot hand, hitting .381 against the Warriors in the first set. The Colonels earned a 25-19 win behind four kills apiece from Suzanne Asbury and Jessica Peak. With a 1-0 lead, Centre entered the second set with an upset bid in mind.
Hendrix nearly went down 2-0, but narrowly escaped the second set with a 25-22 victory to tie the match at 1-1. The Warriors jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the set, and held their four-point lead until the Colonels came charging back. Centre cut the lead to 21-20 on back-to-back kills from Asbury and Beth Cecil, but
MC Rogers and
Bradi Ryan finished the set off with a pair of kills to help the Warriors tie the match.
In the third, the top-seeded Hendrix took control. Ryan and Rogers each notched five kills in the third set while
Sara Dyslin registered three kills and closed the set out with a pair of aces as the Warriors rolled to a 25-19 win to take a 2-1 lead.
The Warriors earned 17 kills in the fourth and final set while holding the Colonels to just six. Hendrix totaled a .469 hitting percentage in the final set while limiting Centre to just .037. The Warriors were 11-for-11 on sideouts, never allowing the Colonels to serve more than once at a time. Hendrix carried their momentum through the fourth set to a 25-11 victory to ice the match with a 3-1 win. Â
Hendrix improves to 29-5 on the season and will face third seed Birmingham-Southern College in the championship game on Sunday, November 9 at noon.
