CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team suffered a 71-55 loss to Southern Athletic Association leader Centre College at Grove Gymnasium on Friday night.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Colonels (14-3, 7-0), who received votes in this weeks D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Warriors fall to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Centre jumped out to a 28-7 lead over the first 11 minutes of the game and led 38-20 at halftime. Down 61-42 with 3:27 left, Hendrix sophomore guard
Jordan Barrett scored seven consecutive points to make the game 61-49 with 2:40 remaining. The Colonels scored on their next two possessions to secure the game, finally winning by 16.
For the game, Hendrix shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the field, 3-of-15 from outside and 8-of-16 at the free throw line. Centre shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) overall, 6-of-16 from three-point range and 13-of-22 at the stripe. The Colonels also had a 42-38 rebounding advantage.
Sophomore guard
Hank Aldous led the Warriors with 13 points. Junior forward
Luke Vance had 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks and sophomore guard
Alec Conard had 10 points, nine boards, two blocks and two steals. Barrett finished with eight points and two assists.
Donovan Whiteside paced the Colonels with 17 points and four steals. Josh Karsner had 14 points off the bench and Blake Scinta recorded seven points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Collin Lopez and Ryan Murray chipped in eight points each and Tyler Wesley registered four blocks and three steals.
Hendrix will host Sewanee - The University of the South for another conference game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
