CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team defeated Sewanee - The University of the South 69-48 in Southern Athletic Association play at Grove Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors (8-11, 2-6) led the entire game, building up as much as a 23-point lead late in the second half. Hendrix led 32-25 at halftime.
The Warriors shot 43 percent (25-of-56) for the game, 5-of-13 from three-point range and 14-of-22 at the free throw line. The Tigers (8-11, 1-7) shot 31 percent (16-of-51) from the field, 1-of-14 from outside and 15-of-20 at the line. Hendrix held a 47-28 rebounding margin.
Sophomore point guard Cailtin Kriesel-Bigler paced the Warriors with 17 points. Senior forward
Katie Coughran scored 12 points off the bench and freshman forward
Anna King had 11 points. Senior forward
Jamie Tate recorded five points, nine rebounds and two assists. Guards
Melanie Martin and
Kati Broberg also had five points.
Casey Hassett led Sewanee with 12 points and five blocks. Jamie Cahuvin and Paige Lowe had 10 points each and Kayla Sewell recorded six points, nine boards, two blocks and two steals.
Hendrix will host Birmingham-Southern College in conference play on Friday night. Before the game, the Warriors will honor their three seniors - Tate, Coughran and
Kaitlin McNeill.
