Box Score CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College field hockey team fell to Bridgewater College 4-1 on Sunday in the continuation of the season opener played on Friday, August 29.
Gabryele Pochron finished with eight saves but took the loss for the Warriors in goal. Brianna Bashore earned the win for the Eagles, after making one save in the first half on Friday night. Amanda Harper played the second half for Bridgewater, allowing one goal and turning away two shots.
The Warriors resumed play on Sunday morning trailing 2-0 after Alenka Ferrufino buried a pair of first half goals for the Eagles. The sophomore buried a pair of rebounds in the 6th and 11th minute of play to give Bridgewater a two-goal cushion entering the second half.
Hendrix opened the scoring of the second frame with a goal in the 43rd minute.
Erika Jasso drove a ball along the turf from outside the shooting arc, and
Raychl Reger flicked the ball up in the air on a redirect from right in front, beating the Bridgewater goalie for the score, bringing the Warriors within one.
Reger nearly tied the game later in the half, when she played a ball into the offensive crease. The ball found the back of the goal, but was called back because the shot was taken from outside the shooting arc. On the ensuing possession the Eagles created a huge momentum shift. Bridgewater linked several passes to move the ball down the field where Taylor Prillaman found Ferrufino for her third goal of the game. The two-goal swing put the Warriors behind 3-1 with just over 10 minutes to play.
In the final minutes, Bridgwater added an insurance goal, with Marisa Sims finding the net to put the visitors ahead 4-1, which resulted as the final score.
Hendrix falls to 0-2 on the season and will return to action on September 4 when they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to face Washington and Lee at 3 p.m.
