Reger Leads Hendrix Past Ferrum

SEWANEE, Tenn. -  Sophomore forward Raychl Reger set a school record with five goals and 11 points to lead the Hendrix College field hockey team to an 8-1 victory over Ferrum College on Saturday.

Reger, from Fort Collins, Colo., recorded five goals and an assist on the day, breaking the old school mark of four goals and eight points held by teammate Erika Jasso against Transylvania in 2011.

Reger scored in the fourth and 14th minutes, then freshman defender Madi Reese scored on a penalty stroke in the 19th minute to put the Warriors up 3-0. Jasso assisted Reger's fourht goal in the 22nd minute to make the game 4-0 at half.

Reger scored again in the 39th minute, then registered an assist, along with senior midfielder Lotte Kraaijenbrink, on senior Morgan Fires' goal in the 47th minute. Reger found the cage again the 51st minute.

Courtney Hamm scored Ferrum's (1-4) only goal in the 55th minute. Fires added a second score on a pass from freshman Sarah Shklanko.

The Warriors (1-5) were one score away from the school record of nine set against Trine in 2010. Hendrix also took 39 shots, the second most in school history, 18 of which were on goal.

Hendrix will open Southern Athletic Association play on Sunday at Sewanee - The University of the South at 11 a.m.
