Warriors Win Three Over Weekend

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Hendrix College volleyball team won three matches, including two Southern Athletic Association contests, away from home Saturday and Sunday.

The Warriors (14-2, 3-0) started the weekend with a 25-20, 23-25, 28-26, 24-26, 15-8 victory over conference foe Centre College in Danville, Ky. on Saturday. They followed with another five-set 25-15, 25-19, 15-25, 24-26, 15-13 win against Thomas More College in the non-conference nightcap. Hendrix finished the weekend with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 sweep at Sewanee - The University of the South on Sunday.

Freshman right side Lauren Petrisin led the Warriors with a season-best 27 kills and hit .412 against the Colonels (3-8, 1-1). Sophomore outside hitter MC Rogers recorded 16 kills and 18 digs and freshman Bradi Ryan had 16 kills and four blocks. Sophomore setter Allison Gaia had a career-high 56 assists with 10 digs for a double-double. Junior libero Felicia Beeman came up with a career-best 33 digs and senior Ella Concavage-Nasar had 11 digs.

Suzanne Asbury led Centre with 14 kills and Beth Cecil had 13. Erin McGrath came up with 27 digs and Elizabeth Janszen recorded 43 assists.

As a team, Hendrix hit .270 with 74 kills, one ace, 100 digs and six blocks. Centre hit .146 with 57 kills, six aces, 77 digs and seven blocks.

Against the Saints (11-2), the Orange & Black hit .248 with 56 kills, 12 aces, 44 digs and nine blocks. TMC hit .197 with 54 kills, nine aces, 48 digs and four blocks.

Rogers registered 16 kills, 12 digs, three aces and two solo blocks. Petrisin had 11 kills and three blocks and sophomore middle blocker Grace Griffin had 10 kills while hitting .643 with three blocks. Ryan also came up with 10 kills. Beeman led the defense with 14 digs and Gaia had 25 assists and two solo blocks. Sophomore middle Samantha Stockdale hit .417 with six kills.

Jessica Knaley led the Saints with 14 kills and Marisa Meyer had 12. Kelsey Castiglioni had 15 digs and Jenna Fessler had 38 assists.

In the weekend finale against the Tigers (4-8, 1-2), Hendrix hit .369 with 42 kills, eight aces, 29 digs and five blocks. Sewanee hit .160 with 28 kills, two aces, 24 digs and two blocks.

Rogers once again had 12 kills and hit .524. Petrisin hit .588 with 11 kills. Beeman added 10 digs with Gaia assisting 21 points. Sophomore setter Holyn Duyck recorded 18 assists.

Diamond Stewart and Jamie Sue Wilson led Sewanee with seven kills and Sara Jayne Sutton had nine digs.

Hendrix will go back on the road next weekend when they face SAA opponents Birmingham-Southern on Saturday and Millsaps on Sunday.
