Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Hendrix College field hockey team stood up to a flurry of shots but fell 2-0 to Wesley College Wolverines in the Salisbury University Invitational on Friday night.
Gabryele Pochron made eight saves on the night for Hendrix, but suffered the loss in net. Sarah Daniels earned the shutout victory in net for the Wolverines, making two saves on the evening.
The Warriors fell behind 13 minutes into the match when the Wolverines took advantage of some good fortune. After a Hendrix clear attempt, the ball came loose in the crease and bounced right to Wesley forward Renee Schneider who flicked it over Pochron and into the goal to put the Wolverines ahead 1-0.
Hendrix's best scoring change in the first half came just before halftime. The squad drove down the field where
Vanessa Jasso found an opening and ripped a shot that glanced off the Wolverines' goaltender and away from danger. At the half, the Warriors trailed 1-0.
In the second frame, the Warriors nearly drew even. The squad earned a penalty corner in the 47th minute, and
Lauren Shklanko found
Lotte Kraaijenbrink. The senior ripped a pair of shots but both were blocked by Wesley defenders before they could find the goal.Â
In the final minutes, Wesley added to their tally with a goal from Devin Price. The Wolverines' midfielder fired a shot that Pochron kicked with her left foot, but the ball popped off her pad and into the top right corner, giving Wesley a 2-0 lead that held to the end of regulation.
The Warriors fall to 0-4 on the season, and will return to action on Saturday, September 6 when they face tournament host #2 Salisbury University at 10:30 a.m. EST.
