Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Hendrix College field hockey team chose to challenge itself with a very tough non-conference schedule this season. Unfortunately for the Warriors, their grit and determination was not enough to rival the #2 Salisbury University Seagulls, as they fell 10-0 to the 2013 national runner-up on Saturday morning.
The Warriors were outshot 51-3 on the day, and took just one penalty corner to the Seagulls' 24.
Gabryele Pochron took the loss in net, but made 16 saves in the first half of play.
Emily Rankin stepped in between the pipes in the second half to make eight saves. Rachel Clewer and Tressie Windsor combined for the shutout, playing 35 minutes in net each for the Seagulls. Windsor turned away the Warriors only shot on goal.
Hendrix struggled to generate an offense against a stifling Salisbury defense. The Warriors went through the entire first half without managing a shot. Pochron kept the team in the game, making several amazing saves through the first 35 minutes as the Seagulls peppered the net.
In the second half, Hendrix had their best offensive chance on their only penalty corner of the game.
Debbie Crawford took the ball down the right wing and turned the corner into the shooting arc. The junior drew a foul to earn the corner.
Lauren Shklanko served the ball to the top of the arc where
Erika Jasso deadened the ball for
Morgan Fires, who ripped a bullet on net. The ball was kicked clear by the Salisbury goalie, thwarting the Warriors' opportunity to score.
Hendrix falls to 0-5 on the season with the loss and will return to action on Saturday, September 13. The Warriors will take on the Ferrum College Panthers in search of their first win of the season.Â
