90th Minute Goal Dooms Warriors

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College men's soccer team was deadlocked at 2-2 with Huntingdon College Hawks in the closing seconds of their game on Saturday in Memphis, but disaster struck the Warriors in the final seconds. With less than a minute to play, a Huntingdon player went down in the box to draw the referee's whistle. The Hawks received a penalty kick and converted to bury the Warriors 3-2.

Eric Bracy made two saves in net, but suffered the loss for the Warriors. Huntingdon goalkeeper Alex Brown made five saves and picked up the win between the pipes.

Hendrix jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when sophomore Ryan Stanowski found his classmate Ryan Mason for a goal. Mason's score marked the first of his career, while Stanowski grabbed his second assist in as many games.

Huntingdon evened the score later in the frame, beating Bracy in the 41st minute to tie the game at 1-1 just before halftime. Killian Delmore tallied the goal for the Hawks.

In the second half, the Warriors jumped back on top in the 58th minute off of a set piece. Stanowski took a corner, sending it back post to Wessel Westerhoff. The Dutch freshman headed the ball across the goal mouth where Jacob Pierce buried a diving header in the net, putting the Warriors up 2-1. The goal marked Pierce's first of the year. The forward led Hendrix with eight scores last season.

In the 66th, the Hawks netted the equalizer. Dylan Weir buried an unassisted goal with just under 25 minutes remaining to tie the score at 2-2.

Later in the half, the Hawks completed their comeback with Bo Jenkins' penalty kick score in the 90th minute.

Hendrix falls to 0-2-1 on the season and will take on Belhaven University on Sunday, September 7 at 12 p.m.
