Streaky Shooting Sinks Warriors

ATLANTA - The Hendrix men's basketball team ran into a hot shooting team, falling 77-53 to the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Athletic Association matchup in Atlanta. The Stormy Petrels shot 52.8% from the floor while drilling 54.5% of their shots from long distance to bury the Warriors.

Luke Vance finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Hank Aldous chipped in with 12 points. After shooting a season-best 62.9% from the floor in their previous game, Hendrix was held to just a 36.5% shooting performance. The squad nailed 69.2% of their three-point attempts in their last time out, but shot just 3-for-21 from downtown against the Stormy Petrels.

The Warriors got off to a slow start as the Stormy Petrels jumped out to an 11-3 lead. Oglethorpe kept building on their quick start, with most of their points coming from beyond the arc. The home team hit four three-pointers in the first 11 minutes of the game, taking a 22-7 lead with 12 of their 22 points coming from deep.

Trailing by 18 points with less than four minutes to go, the Warriors went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 12 points, but the Stormy Petrels answered with six straight in the final 90 seconds of the frame to regain their comfortable 18-point lead. At the half, Hendrix trailed their conference foe 44-26.

In the second, The Warriors came out of the locker room with a comeback attempt in mind. The squad scored the first four points of the half, cutting the lead to 14 points. An Aldous three cut the deficit to 11, but that was as close as the Warriors would draw. The Stormy Petrels pulled away with more outside shooting. Drew Patrick hit four three-pointers in the second half to propel the Oglethorpe offense as they extended their lead.

Oglethorpe improves to 11-3 on the season with a 2-1 mark in the conference, winning four of their last five.

Hendrix falls to 6-7 on the season with a 1-2 mark in the SAA. The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Rust College in a non-conference battle in Conway.
