Warriors Thump Stormy Petrels

ATLANTA - In their second conference game of the weekend, the Hendrix College women's basketball team earned a convincing 75-49 victory over Southern Athletic Association opponent Oglethorpe University on Sunday in Atlanta.

Sara Dyslin led all scorers with a career-high 20 points on an 8-of-10 shooting performance from the floor in a game in which the Warriors never trailed. The freshman also pulled 15 rebounds to tally her fifth double-double of the season. Anna King also registered a double-double, her seventh this year, finishing with 17 points and 14 boards. Kati Broberg tied her career-high in scoring with 14 points and Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler led the Warriors with nine assists. Ten different Warriors registered at least two points in the game as the team rolled to the win.

The Orange and Black shot 45.6% from the floor including a 50.0% effort in the second half  while holding the Stormy Petrels to just 22.7% shooting from the floor and won the rebounding battle 51-31. The squad cashed in on 30 points in the paint and 15 fast break points to cruise to the lopsided win.

The Warriors kept the home team off the scoreboard for the first 3:38 of the game, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Oglethorpe's Ciara Hughes and Emily Buck combined for eight points to cut the Hendrix lead to four, but the Warriors went off on a nother 10-2 run to extend their lead to 22-10 with 8:49 remaining in the first half. The squad kept pounding away at the Stormy Petrels, taking a 37-18 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Warriors picked up where they left off, continuing to play hard-nosed defense and efficient offense to extend their lead. In the final 17 minutes of the game, the Warriors led by as much as 30, never letting the Stormy Petrels draw within 20 points of their lead. Leah Smith scored a career-high seven points with all of them coming in the second half. The freshman guard went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and drained a three to reach her career-best scoring total.

Hendrix improves to 6-8 on the season and earns their first win in conference play, moving to 1-2. The squad will return to action on Saturday when they play host to #20 Rhodes.
