CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team cruised to a 93-57 win over Champion Baptist College Saturday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium. The host Warriors (5-5) dished out 32 assists, tying the school record set on Dec. 1, 1990 against Philander Smith.
With the lead just 28-24 with 5:56 left in the first half, Hendrix went on a 17-2 run to end the period and take a 45-26 lead into halftime. The Orange & Black would extend their lead to as many as 39 against the Tigers (1-15).
For the game, the Warriors shot a season-best 54.7 percent (41-of-75) from the field and went 7-of-13 from three-point range and 4-of-11 at the line. CBC shot 32.3 percent (20-of-62) from the floor, 6-of-17 from outside and 11-of-17 from the line. Hendrix scored 28 points off of 17 CBC turnovers and had 21 fastbreak points.
All but one of Hendrix' 14 players scored. Junior guard
Hank Aldous tied career highs with 22 points, five assists and three steals. Senior forward
Luke Vance was one off his career best with 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting, to go with six rebounds and a personal high five assists. Junior forward
Alec Conard added 10 points and six boards. Sophomore point guard
Gabe Gumm dished out nine assists and netted four points.
Jordan Barrett had six points and four steals and
Bryce Parker and
Drew Nikolovski scored six a piece.
Sean Criswell and
Gearen Littlefield had four points and five rebounds each and
Mark Sheppard added four points.
Aaron Steele hit a three-pointer and dished out three assists, with
Bruce Baker scoring two points and two assists and
Travis Garrett scored one.
John Ogle was scoreless, but led the Warriors with eight rebounds.
David Gardner led the Tigers with 15 points, two blocks ands two steals. Hayes Linville scored 13 points with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Cody Connor added 11 points.
Hendrix will go on the road for a game at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas Monday night.
