Hendrix Wins In Double Overtime at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Freshman forward Daniel Sweeney scored 1:13 into the second overtime to give the Hendrix College men's soccer team a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Sewanee - The University of the South Sunday afternoon.

Sunday's game was the sixth time the Warriors went to double overtime this year, and it was their first win in extra time. They improve to 2-7-3 on the year and 1-2-1 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Tigers drop to 5-8-1 and 1-3.

Sewanee took a 2-0 lead in the first half with a goal by Bobby Zolper in the seventh minute and another by Max Hawes in the 25th.

Junior midfielder Ryan Stanowski scored in the 60th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, then Hendrix tied it in the 67th minute on an own goal.

The Tigers had chances to win in the first overtime, but senior keeper Jerry Thomeczek came up with a pair of saves. Sweeney knocked in his own rebound in the second overtime to give Hendrix the win.

For the game Sewanee outshot Hendrix 24-11 overall and 11-8 on goal. The Tigers also had 11 corner kicks, compared to two for the Warriors.

- The goal was the first of Sweeney's career.
- Stanowski now has three goals this season and four in his career.
- Thomeczek recorded a career-high nine saves.
- Billy Gardner and Oscar Stjernquist also took shots on goal for the Warriors.

Sewanee Notes
- Hawes assisted Zolper's goal.
- Kyle Johnson took eight shots, five on goal.
- Will Merriman recorded four saves.

Up Next
Hendrix will host SAA rival Berry College at 7 p.m. Friday night.
