CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's soccer team defeated Evangel University 6-0 in non-conference play at Warrior Field Tuesday night.
The Warriors (8-3-1) recorded their sixth shutout of the season and tied the school record with 42 shots, set earlier this season against Williams Baptist. The Orange & Black outshot the Crusaders (0-11) 42-5 overall and 16-2 on goal. Hendrix also held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Hendrix scored in the 40th minute on a
Janie Stultz header from the right side on an assist from freshman
Melissa Miller. In the 53rd minute, junior midfielder
Vanessa Franco stole the ball from an Evangel player and fed it to senior forward
Samantha Lallas who scored on a breakaway down the middle.
The Warriors scored 52 seconds apart in the 62nd minute. Lallas had a shot that was stopped from going in by an Evangel defender, but freshman
Sydney Blevins collected the rebound and scored to give Hendrix a 3-0 lead. Lallas scored for the second time with an assist from
Evie Cannon to make it 4-0.
In the 67th minute,
Sydney Meyer's pass found a sprinting
Sydney King who found the net for her second goal of the year. Sophomore
Zoe Corwyn added the final tally in the 82nd minute on a spectacular rising ball from the left side that went in over the keeper's head.
Hendrix Notes- Blevins' goal was the first of her career and Stultz had her first of the season and sixth of her tenure.
- Lallas recorded multiple goals for the fourth time this season. She also had her team-leading sixth assist of the year.
- Miller recorded her third assist of the year. Meyer and Franco picked up their second.
- Corwyn also picked up her second goal of the season.
- Sophomore keeper
Jordan Rausch recorded the sixth shutout of the season with two saves.
Evangel Notes- Lesleigh Fenton took for shots for the Crusaders with one on goal.
- Rebekah Pell also had a shot on goal.
- Josie Gregory recorded nine saves
