DEMOREST, Ga. - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse team traveled to Georgia to take on Piedmont College on Friday afternoon, but fell to the Lions 18-4 in their first road contest of the season.
Raychl Reger finished with a pair of goals to lead the Hendrix offense, while
Kaitlyn Smith and
Landri Wenzel each added a score.
Gabryele Pochron finished with 17 saves but took the loss in her first game between the pipes for the Warriors this season.
Hendrix began the game hanging even with the host Piedmont. The teams traded goals in the opening five minutes, with Reger answering a Piedmont goal, tying the score at 1-1. The Lions ran out to a 6-1 lead before Wenzel and Smith scored on back-to-back free position shots to cut the lead to 6-3 with 7:43 left in the first half.
From that point and extending into the second half, Piedmont scored 12 consecutive goals to extend their lead to 18-3. Reger scored her second tally of the game in the final minute of play, but by that point the Lions lead was out of reach.
Hendrix Notes- In her first career appearance in goal, Pochron made nine saves.
- Reger finished with two goals, and also led the team with four ground balls, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
- Smith forced two caused turnovers and earned five draw controls to go along with her score.
- Hendrix earned eight free position shots in the game, while limiting the Lions to just three.
Piedmont Notes- Mckynsey Douglas led all scorers with six goals in the game.
- Maggie McDaniel added three goals, two assists, and a team-high four caused turnovers for the Lions.
- Blake Forrest made 12 saves in net, allowing just four Hendrix goals.
Up NextHendrix moves to 1-2 on the season and will begin conference play on Saturday when they travel to Mount Berry, Ga. to take on Southern Athletic Association rival Berry College.
