MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse team hung tight in their Southern Athletic Association opener, but ran out of gas in the second half as the Berry College Bikings pulled away to a 15-6 win.
Bridget Umble led the Warrior offense, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist.
Kaitlyn Smith added a goal and an assist while leading the team with five draw controls and causing a pair of turnovers.
Jordan Rausch scored her first career goal and added an assist while
Landri Wenzel dished out an assist, earned two caused turnovers and scooped three ground balls.
Gabryele Pochron made eight saves for the Warriors, but took the loss in net.
In the first half, Hendrix played right with the Vikings, trading goals with the home team. The Orange and Black trailed 3-1 in the early going, but scored three consecutive goals from Umble, Smith, and
Shelby Hill to take a 4-3 lead midway through the frame. Berry scored twice to regain the lead, but Hendrix answered when Umble found Rausch to tie the game at 5-5. The Vikings finished the half with two unanswered scores to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break.
The Warriors struggled to generate an offense in the second frame. It took the squad 14:12 to find the net in the second half, when Umble notched her third goal of the game, but by that time Berry had built up an 11-6 advantage. Umble's tally marked the Warriors' only score of the second half as Hendrix fell 15-6.Â

Up NextHendrix moves to 1-3 on the season and begins their conference schedule with an 0-1 mark. The squad will look to bounce back on February 28 when they play host to SAA rival Sewanee, their first of five straight home games.Â
