CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team rallied behind an outstanding goalkeeping performance by
Christian Wheeler to earn a 6-3 win over Huntingdon College in a low-scoring affair on Saturday afternoon at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
Wheeler made 15 saves, one off his season-high, to earn the win in net and stifle the Hawks offense.
Travis Rabun led the Warriors' attack with three goals and two assists, while
Alex Ortenstone and
Carson Boone each grabed a goal and an assist. Ortenstone also led the Warriors in ground balls with five and shared the team lead in caused turnovers with
Will Ross with two apiece.
Hendrix and Huntingdon played to an even tie through the first half. The Warriors put a pair of tallies on the board in the early going, taking a 2-0 lead on goals from Boone and Rabun, but Huntingdon answered with a pair of scores to knot the game at 2-2 before the halftime whistle.
In the third quarter, the Orange and Black took over, scoring three goals while holding the Hawks scoreless through the frame. Hendrix cashed in on a pair of man-up opportunities in the late stages of the frame, notching two goals with a man advantage in the final two minutes of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter,
Robbie Borrello drove home the dagger with 10:02 remaining, scoring his 14th goal of the season to give the Warriors a 6-2 lead. Huntingdon scored with 3:07 left, but the Warriors were able to hold off the Hawks and run out the clock for their first home victory of the year.
Hendrix Notes - 11 different Hendrix players registered at least one caused turnover as the squad forced Huntingdon into 13 giveaways.
- The Warriors were successful on 25-of-27 clear attempts (92.6%), their best clear attempt success rate of the season.
- The Orange and Black scored twice on man-up opportunities, going 2-for-5 with the advantage, tying their best mark of the year.

Robbie Borrello extends his scoring streak to 10 games dating back to last season. During the streak Borrello has 26 goals and 11 assists.
- Hendrix's win over Huntingdon marks their first victory over the Hawks in program history. The squad was 0-3 against them before Saturday.
Huntingdon Notes- Huntingdon won 9-of-12 faceoffs, and earned 19 clears in 22 attempts.
- The Hawks outshot the Warriors 32-23 on the day, but went 0-for-6 on man-up opportunities.
- Brandon Sewell, LaDarius Williams and Brandon Scheele each scored for the Hawks.
Up NextHendrix moves to 3-1 on the season, tying their best start in program history. The team will return to action on February 27 when they travel to Iowa to take on the University of Dubuque.
