Sewanee Tops Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse lost to Sewanee - The University of the South 18-7 in Southern Athletic Association competition at Warrior Field on Saturday.

The visiting Tigers (2-0, 2-0) outshot the Warriors (1-4, 0-2) 34-23 and 29-18 in shots on goal. The teams were even with 23 ground balls each. Hendrix caused 15 Sewanee turnovers, the third most in school history.

Sewanee set the pace by jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first 7:15 of the game. Hendrix answered with three goals in less than minute to cut it to 5-3. Freshmen Bridget Umble and Shelby Hill and sophomore Raychl Reger scored during that stretch. Another Umble goal, assisted by sophomore Michaela Seltzer, made the game 7-4 with 12:03 in the first half. The Tigers answered with seven consecutive goals to end the half with a 14-4 lead.

Umble netted her third score of the day on an assist by Reger just 39 seconds into the second period. Sewanee scored three more goals before Reger added her second assist on a pass from Hill with 6:50 left. Freshman Jordan Rausch scored on a free position shot with 1:26 to play for the final goal of the day.

Hendrix Notes
- Sophomore keeper Gabryele Pochron recorded 11 saves in goal, the second most in school history.
- Umble scored three goals, the fourth time she has had a hat trick or more in four of the Warriors' five contests.
- Smith led Hendrix with five ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
- Junior attacker Nini Hoang recorded three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- Reger had four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers to go with her three points.

Sewanee Notes
- Sally Anne Greenwood paced the Tigers with five goals and three draw controls.
- Ellie Murphy added two goals and three assists, Relly King had three goals and an assist, Mallory Grimm had one goal and three assists and Katie Riddle added two of each.
- Keeper Crawford Horan registered 11 saves in goal.

Hendrix will take on Oglethorpe University at home on Mar. 7.The Warriors defeated the Stormy Petrels 16-14 in Atlanta last season for the program's first SAA victory.
