Hendrix Swept by Ozarks in Twinbill

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team dropped a pair of contests to in-state rival The University of the Ozarks on Wednesday night, falling 5-4 and 12-3 to the Eagles.

Deva Bharne went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and an RBI in the two games combined. Nikki Sanders combined to go 3-for-6 from the plate. Autumn Martin went 2-for-7 in both games combined, and tossed a full seven innings, allowing four earned runs in game one.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Hendrix opened the game with a 1-0 lead, scoring in the bottom of the first. Victoria Hughes was hit by a pitch, bunted over to second by Michaela Larabee, and brought home on an RBI-single off Martin's bat. Ozarks was quick to respond with a run in the top of the second. The Eagles added to their lead with two runs in the top of the third and two more in the fifth to go ahead 5-1.

Hendrix rallied in the fifth, scoring a pair of runs to cut the lead in half. Bharne led off with a double, and Bryanna Carlisle followed with a walk. Two batters later, Larabee brought both runners home with a single up the middle to make the score 5-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors kept chipping away. Morgan Fires ripped a double up the middle and was brought home two batters later by Bharne, cutting the lead to 5-4. Carlisle kept the rally going with a single, but both runners were stranded when Hughes ripped a line drive right at the third baseman for the third out. Hendrix failed to score in the seventh and fell in game one 5-4.

In game two, Ozarks brought out their bats in a big way, putting up 12 runs on 15 hits. Five different Eagles earned at least two hits in the contest.

Hendrix found themselves trailing 5-0 before their first at-bat and generated one run on a pair of Ozarks errors in the bottom of the first. The Warriors added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Eagles' lead was insurmountable as the visitors rolled to a 12-3 win.

Hendrix Notes
- Morgan Fires registered a hit in each game to extend her hitting streak to nine games, dating back to last season.
