CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team fell to their first loss in over a month, dropping an 8-4 decision to Beloit College on Saturday afternoon at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
Joe Takacs made a season-high 12 saves but took the loss in net for the Warriors. The goalkeeper led the team in ground balls with four on the day, while
Dan D'Ostuni picked up a season-high three ground balls. Defenders Brenden Harbaugh and
Reed Mershon each recorded a team-high three caused turnovers. Midfielder
Alex Ortenstone added three caused turnovers, as well as a goal.
Carson Boone,
Robbie Borrello and Partick Rogers also scored for the Warriors, while
Travis Rabun dished off two assists.
The Warriors got off to a slow start, falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter. After being shutout in the opening frame, Hendrix came out in the second quarter with a man-advantage and cashed in, scoring just 13 seconds into the period to make it 3-1. Rabun found Ortenstone for the man-up goal to get the Warriors on the board. In the final minute of the first half,
Cody Eckes found Boone for his 23rd goal of the season to cut the Buccaneers' lead to 3-2 before the halftime whistle.
In the third quarter the visitors netted a pair of goals, extending their lead to 5-2, before Rabun connected with Rogers to score nearly five minutes into the frame. Beloit added an insurance goal with 11 seconds left in the frame and the Warriors went into the final frame trailing 6-3. In the fourth, Hendrix surrendered two more goals to the Buccaneers as they extended their lead to 8-3 with 7:26 remaining. The Warriors' leading scorer Borrello forced himself into the scorebook with a goal with 3:59 left, but that was all the offense the Warriors could muster as they fell 8-4.
Hendrix Notes- The Warriors suffered their first loss since February 7 when they fell to Southwestern, moving to 4-2 on the season.
- With his fourth quarter goal, Borrello preserved his goal scoring streak, netting at least one goal in 12 straight games dating back to last season.
- Brenden Harbaugh moved into second place in Hendrix program history in caused turnovers with 49 in his career.
- Hendrix lost the ground-ball battle for the first time this season, scooping just 26 while Beloit nabbed 40.
Beloit Notes- Beloit earned their first win of the season, moving to 1-3 on the season.
- Aidan Whinnery scored four goals and added an assist while Liam O'Connor scored twice and dished off three helpers.
- John Murphy earned the win in net for the Buccaneers, making 14 saves and allowing just four goals.
Up NextHendrix will return to action on Wednesday when they open their Southern Athletic Association schedule with a battle with nearby Rhodes College. The Warriors are 3-0 all-time against the Lynx.
