Rhodes Takes Double-Header from Hendrix

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College softball team was defeated twice by Rhodes College in Southern Athletic Association action at Lynx Field on Tuesday afternoon. The host Lynx (3-15-1, 2-5-1) took the first game from the Warriors (5-10, 2-6) 13-4 in five innings, then won the nightcap 8-7.

Rhodes outhit the Warriors 14-4 in the game one. However, all four of the hits for Hendrix were solo home runs. Sydney Ozersky, Shelby Anderson and Nikki Sanders opened the third inning with back-to-back-to-back bombs. Freshman first baseman Deva Bharne added her first home run in the top of the fifth.

The Lynx scored five runs in both the first and second innings, one in the third and two in the fourth. Kayla Patton (1-3) took the loss, while Forrest Skelton (2-6) earned the victory.

Rhodes built up a 5-0 lead after two innings in the second game. Hendrix plated two runs in the third when freshman right fielder Samantha Schaefer led off with a single and later scored from third on a passed ball. Sophomore second baseman Victoria Hughes doubled and scored on a ground ball from Bharne.

The Lynx added a run in the bottom of the third to go up 6-2, but the Warriors tied the game with a four-run fourth. Junior designated player Kayla Patton hit a double that scored Sanders. Schaefer followed with a two-run double, plating freshman pitcher Autumn Martin and freshman pinch runner Rebecca Maeder. Schaefer stole third and was driven in by Hughes.

Rhodes regained the lead in a run in the fifth, but Hendrix tied it again in top of the sixth. Martin led off with a single, was moved over to third and stole home. Skelton scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth after drawing a walk, stealing second, getting to third on a passed ball then crossing the plate on a single from Makenzie Martin.
