Second Half Surge Sinks Warriors

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse team held a 6-3 advantage at halftime of Monday night's game againts NAIA affiliate Oklahoma Baptist University, but the Lady Bison surged ahead with seven second half goals to steal a 10-9 win away from the Warriors.

Gabryele Pochron finished with a program-record 23 saves, breaking the previous record set in the team's last game against Oglethorpe, but took the loss in net for the Warriors. Meghan Ayers and Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler each reached career-highs with six ground balls, and Ayers forced four caused turnovers. Kaitlyn Smith scored a career-high five goals and dished off an assist while Shelby Hill scored two goals, snagged five draw controls, and caused four turnovers.

Hendrix came out strong in the first half, going ahead 3-0 in the first seven minutes of play. Smith paced the team with two goals within a 1:32 span, followed by a free position goal from Hill, putting the Warriors ahead 3-0 with 23:13 remaining in the first half. OBU cut the lead to 3-2 before Reilly Frazier kept the Warriors ahead with a quick-stick goal from Smith, putting the Orange and Black up 4-2. The Lady Bison cut the lead back down to one goal with 9:59 remaining, but Hendrix responded with goals from Smith and Ayers in the final 10 minutes, taking a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.

Smith scored a quick goal just 29 second into the second half to give the Warriors a 7-3 edge, but the Lady Bison responded in a big way. The visiting team rallied for six consecutive goals over the next 12:05 to take a 9-7 lead with 17:26 left to play. Hill and Smith each scored clutch goals to tie the game at 9-9 with 13:03 remaining. With 11:50 remaining, OBU attacker Emily Gilbert beat Pochron to give the Lady Bison a 10-9 lead.

Hendrix fought tirelessly in the final 10 minutes of play to score the equalizer, but just couldn't find the net. In the final seconds, the Warriors cleared the ball to Jordan Rausch who had a fast-break look in the final five seconds, but her shot went begging just wide of the frame. OBU held on to win 10-9.

Hendrix Notes
- With an assist in Monday's game, Landri Wenzel broke her own record for most assists in a season. The senior now has six for the year, 11 for her career.
- Kaitlyn Smith has scored eight goals and dished off three assists for 11 points in her last two games combined.
- Hendrix allowed 44 shots on the evening, the most attempted by an opponent in any game this season.
- The Warriors forced 15 caused turnovers, tied for the second-most caused turnovers this season.

Oklahoma Baptist Notes
- Emily Gilbert scored four goals, including the game-winner, and dished off one assist.
- Paige Morrisson and Hannah Dowell each scored twice, and Morrisson caused a game-high five turnovers.
- Sabrina Attaway made five saves to earn the win in net for the Lady Bison.

Hendrix will return to action on Friday, March 20 when they host conference rival Millsaps College.
