CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team overcame a 6-1 deficit to defeat Centenary College of Louisiana 8-6 at Warrior Field Wednesday night.
The Ladies (7-18) opened the game with four runs on four walks and two errors in the top of the first. The host Warriors (6-14) scored in the bottom of the frame when sophomore second baseman
Victoria Hughes walked, was bunted over by
Michaela Larabee and moved to third on an
Autumn Martin double. Junior third baseman
Shelby Anderson drove in Hughes on a line drive sacrifice fly to make the game 4-1.
Centenary added two more in the second on a Carissa Herndon two-run single. Hendrix cut the lead to 6-4 after a three-run second. Freshman first baseman Devan Bharne led off with a single and senior right field
Morgan Fires bunted for a base hit. Freshman left fielder
Bryanna Carlisle followed with a base hit up the middle, scoring Bharne.
Madi Fires, freshman center fielder, drove her sister in with a base hit to right field . Later in the Larabee hit a sac fly to center field, plating Carlisle.
The Orange & Black took a 7-6 lead in the third with three more runs. Anderson led off with a walk and stole second and freshman catcher
Nikki Sanders hit a base hit, moving Anderson to third, then stole second as well. Bharne drew a walk to load up the bases.
Morgan Fires delivered a single through the left side of the field, scoring Anderson. Carlisle hit a sac fly to center, allowing Sanders to score, then Bharne crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
The final run of the game was scored in the bottom of the fourth when Larabee singled to center and scored on an Anderson base knock.
The second game of the double-header was called in the bottom of the fifth with two outs due to rain and lightning. Because five innings were not completed, it is not an official game.
Hendrix Notes- The Warriors outhit the Ladies 9-2.
- Martin (3-5) picked up her third win, allowing only two hits and two earned runs with eight walks and a strikeout.
- Eight of the nine Warriors recorded a least one hit, with
Morgan Fires getting two.
- Hendrix recorded four stolen bases, the second most this season. Anderson picked up two in the game, while Sanders and
Madi Fires each had one.
- Bharne led Hendrix with two runs scored.
- Anderson and Carlisle drove in two runs a piece.
- Martin had the only extra-base hit of the night with a double.
- The Warriors recorded a school record three sacrifice flies.
Centenary Notes- Codi Coghlan (0-1) took the loss in relief.
- Herndon drove in three runs in the game.
- Coghlan walked four times and scored once.
- Shortstop Anna Dunn and Herndon had the Ladies' only hits.
- Morgan Daigle and Dunn each scored twice
