Hendrix Loses Twinbill to First Place Berry

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team lost both games of a Southern Athletic Association double-header to Berry College at Warrior Field Saturday. The conference leading Vikings (25-6, 15-2) took the first game 5-1, then topped the Warriors (10-18, 4-10) 9-2.

Hendrix struck in the bottom of the first of the opener when senior shortstop Michaela Larabee led off with a walk, was bunted over by freshman center fielder Madi Fires and scored on a single to left center by junior third baseman Shelby Anderson.

The game remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth when Berry plated five runs on five hits and an error. Catcher Kenzie Fleming had the big hit in the frame, a two-run single up the middle.

Berry hurler Kassie Howard (14-1) struck out eight and only allowed one hit, one run and a walk. Freshman Autumn Martin (4-7) took the loss for Hendrix.

The Warriors once again had a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap. Anderson reached on an error, was bunted over by freshman first baseman Nikki Sanders and later scored on an infield single by sophomore Sydney Ozersky. The Vikings captured a 4-1 lead in the top of the third, but the Warriors made it 4-2 in the bottom of the same inning when Anderson drove in Martin with a double down the left field line.

An RBI-triple by right fielder Brittany Ferrell gave Berry a 5-2 advantage in the fourth. First baseman Marie Collop connected on a two-run homer over the left field fence in the fifth and the Vikings added two more in the sixth.

Hendrix had 10 hits in game two, but left six on base. Berry recorded 15 hits.

Allison Coronado (7-3) earned the win for the Vikings. Junior Kayla Patton (2-7) received the loss.
