Hendrix Falls to Centre 11-7

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team lost to Centre College 11-7 at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the visiting Colonels (9-4, 5-1) claim a share of the Southern Athletic Association title, tying with Sewanee and Berry. The Warriors (6-7, 1-5) secure the sixth seed in the SAA Tournament and will face Berry again in Mount Berry, Ga. on Saturday.

The Colonels jumped out to a 6-2 lead over the first 11 minutes of the first quarter and led 9-4 at half. They added two more goals to open the third quarter and Hendrix scored twice in the penultimate frame. The Warriors fired off one more goal in the fourth.

The teams were even on shots with 39 each and Centre with a 25-24 edge in shots on goal. The Colonels also had a 40-30 ground ball advantage and were 11-10 in faceoffs.

Hendrix Notes
- The Warriors caused 10 turnovers, led by Kevin Estell and Travis Rabun with two each.
- Sophomore keeper Christian Wheeler recorded 14 saves, six ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Sophomore midfielder Patrick Munn led all players with seven ground balls, tying his career high and won seven faceoffs.
- Rabun registered two goals and an assist. TK Shaffer also netted two goals.
- Sophomore Cody Eckes had a goal and tied his career best with three assists.
- Alex Ortenstone and Brian Jasper also scored.

Centre Notes
- Sam Rush led the Colonels with four goals.
- Seth Gray had three goals and an assist. Matt Hughes came up with a goal and three assist.
- Dominic Peluso also scored twice.
- Connor Thuss led the defense with five ground balls to go with three caused turnovers.
- Jake Mafise also had four caused turnovers.
- Bryce McCoy stopped 17 shots in goal.

Up Next
Hendrix will face Berry in Mount Berry, Ga. on Saturday to open the SAA Tournament.
