Softball Blanks Millsaps, Survives to Sunday

BRANDON, Miss. - For the second time on Saturday, the Hendrix College softball team staved off elimination from the Southern Athletic Association Tournament in convincing fashion with a 8-0, six-inning win over fourth-seeded Millsaps College.

The Warriors (12-25) will take on fifth seed Centre College in another elimination game on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Freshman Autumn Martin (5-12) threw her first shutout of the season, limiting the Majors (18-13) to just five hits and a walk to go with five strikeouts.

Hendrix struck in the third inning when Michaela Larabee and Victoria Hughes both singled and junior third baseman Shelby Anderson cleared the bases with a double. The Orange & Black added three more runs on three hits and an error in the fourth. Hughes connected on a RBI-double in the inning.

Martin plated Deva Bharne, who walked, with a single int he sixth. Anderson hit her second two-run double of the game in the same inning to secure the run-rule victory.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, left fielder Katleyn Murray hit a double but Warrior left fielder Rebecca Maeder threw her out trying to reach third.

Hendrix Notes
- The shutout was the second of the season for the Warriors.
- The heart of the order carried the offense with Hughes, Martin and Anderson each responsible for two hits in the second, third and fourth spots, respectively.
- Larabee was a table setter, scoring three runs on a hit, two walks and a pair of steals. Larabee moves into second in school history with 45 walks.
- Anderson drove in four runs on two doubles. She now has 37 for her career and moved into third place on the program's all-time list.
- Hughes and Bharne both scored twice.

Millsaps Notes
- Danielle Faucheaux (10-8) took the loss, allowing seven hits, four earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
- Missy Romero had two hits in the leadoff spot.
- First baseman Rayne Gravat hit a triple.
