CONWAY, Ark. - In their first Southern Athletic Association game of the season, the Hendrix College women's lacrosse team fell to Berry College 9-8 at Warrior Field Saturday.
The Warriors (2-2, 0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after goals from
Morgan Dasch and
Bridget Umble in the first 7:23 of the game. The Vikings (1-1, 1-0) scored the next five goals to take a 5-2 lead. Umbler,
Raychl Reger and Dasch found the net again to tie the game at 5-5 with 6:42 left in the period. Berry's Savannah Robar scored on a free-position shot late in the half to give them a 6-5 lead at the break.
Robar scored again 47 seconds into the second period to give the Vikings a two-goal cushion. Warrior freshman
Jesse Clark scored just 18 seconds later on an assist from Dasch. That assist was the 11th of the season for Dasch, breaking the school season record of 10 set by
Kaitlyn Smith and Reger a year ago.
Berry tacked on two more goals to go up 9-6 with 23:09 to play. Junior midfielder
Meghan Ayers scored, followed by another Umble goal with 15:42 left to make the game 9-8. Hendrix managed three shots on goal in the final 15 minutes of the game, but they were stopped by Viking keeper Ella Makin.
The Vikings outshot the Warriors 27-20 overall but both teams had 17 shots on goal. Berry held a 26-15 advantage in ground balls, while Hendrix had a 10-9 edge in draw controls.
Hendrix Notes- Dasch, a freshman, broke the school single season assist record in just four games. For the game, she had two goals and three helpers.
- Umble scored three goals with two assists, giving her 15 goals for the season.
- Reger recorded four draw controls and two caused turnovers to go along with her goal.
- Frazier recorded an assist, four ground balls and a career-high four caused turnovers.
- Smith and
Gabryele Pochron created two turnovers each.
- Freshman
Alexis Truitt recorded eight saves in goal.
Berry Notes- Kelsey McAnnally had two goals, two assists and three ground balls.
- Angelica Miller scored three times and had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Makin recorded nine saves and six ground balls.
Up NextHendrix will travel to SAA foe Sewanee - The University of the South next Saturday.
