CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team lost both of their games on the first day of the Warrior Spring Fling Saturday.
The Warriors (2-4) lost their first game to #8 Washington University (2-0) 10-0 in five innings, then lost to Westminster College (1-1) 10-8 in their second game.
The nationally-ranked Bears recorded 15 hits and pitcher Annie Pitkin struck out 11 batters and allowed three walks and one hit in five innings. Freshman
Emily Stockalper (2-1) took the loss for Hendrix, allowing 13 hits, two earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.
The Blue Jays scored two in the topped of the first, but the Warriors got one back in the bottom of the frame when junior second baseman
Victoria Hughes was hit by a pitch to start the inning, moved to second on a wild pitch, then scored on an error.
Hendrix went up 5-2 in the second on two hits and an error. Hughes drove in a run with a single and three runs scored on an error.
Westminster made the game 5-4 in the fourth on a RBI double from Amber Tepen and a single by Ann Baker. They took a 7-4 lead in the fifth with a trio of runs, two of which came from a double by Erica Burney.
The Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the fifth when
McKenzie Cresswell led off with a walk.
Bryanna Carlisle came in to run for Cresswell and later scored from third on a
Jamie Johnson grounder.
The Blue Jays added two more in the sixth to go up 9-6. Senior third baseman
Shelby Anderson hit her second home run of the season, a two-run bomb to center field to cut the deficit to 9-8.
Westminster added one more run in the seventh on a RBI-single by Kim Morrison.
Hendrix Notes- Freshman catcher
Karli Sewell had the only hit against Wash. U. She also had a double against Westminster.
- Hughes, Anderson and
Madi Fires each drew a walk against the Bears.
- Anderson moved into fifth on the school career home runs list with seven and into fifth with her 89th run batted in.
- Hughes scored twice and stole a base against Westminster.
- Stockalper had two hits, including a double, against the Blue Jays.

Sydney Ozersky and
Morgan Maida also recorded a hit against WC.
- Freshman
Dasha Donahoe (0-2) struck out five against the Blue Jays, but took the loss on eight hits, five runs and two walks in four innings.
Washington Notes- Kenzie James went 3-for-4 with two runs scored
- Left fielder Hannah Mehrle went 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a triple.
- Taylor Arends went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three driven in, a double and a triple.
Westminster Notes- Shannon Perrigo (1-0) allowed seven hits, four earned runs, four walks and struck out one to get the win.
- Tepen went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI and a double.
- Kim Morrison went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Up NextHendrix will face Washington U. and Westminster again Saturday on the final day of the Warrior Spring Fling.
