Hendrix Defeats Elmhurst 8-7 For First Win

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season by holding off Elmhurst College 8-7 Friday evening.

The Warriors (1-3) led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter with goals from Alex Ortenstone and Travis Rabun. The Blue Jays (0-2) tied it up early in the second period, but Rabun, Joe Graves and Cole Cramer added a goal each to give Hendrix a 5-2 advantage at halftime.

Elmhusrt outscored the Warriors 3-1 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Junior midfielder Patrick Munn found the net with 8:41 and Rabun scored for the fourth time at the 3:09 mark to give the Orange & Black an 8-5 cushion. Carter Meyer scored 39 seconds later and Jackson Mandli made a man-up goal with 53 seconds left to make the game 8-7.

The Warriors won the ensuing faceoff and ran out the clock to hold on for the win.

Elmhurst outshot Hendrix 31-30 and 20-18 on goal. The Blue Jays held a 34-28 edge in ground balls, but the Warriors won the faceoff battle 12-7.

- Rabun tied his career-high with four goals and he picked up four ground balls.
- Senior attacker Zachary Baier assisted two scores and had three ground balls.
- Cramer had a goal and an assist.
- Sophomore midfielder Jason Blatt was 12-of-19 on faceoffs, recorded a season-high nine ground balls and an assist.
- Freshman defenseman Dominic Dachille had two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
- Senior Joe Takacs stopped 13 shots in goal.
- Dan D'Ostuni, Connor Crossland, Gorman, Baier and Ortenstone each caused a turnover.

Elmhurst Notes
- Mac Harden led the Blue Jays with two goals, an aisst and five ground balls.
- Jake Cambron scored twice with four ground balls.
- Nick Bonastia had 10 saves.

Hendrix will travel to Bloomington, Ill. to face Illinois Wesleyan at noon Sunday.
