Hendrix Stunned by Centre in SAA Tourney

HOMEWOOD, Ala. - The Hendrix College women's basketball season came to an end with a 56-54 loss to Centre College in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Friday night.

The third-seeded Warriors end their season at 19-7, while the sixth-seeded Colonels improve to 8-18.

Hendrix had their worst shooting performance of the season, only making 25.8 percent (16-of-62) of their shots. They were 5-of-22 from outside and 17-of-23 at the free throw line. Centre shot 31.5 percent (17-of-54) overall, 3-of-7 from three-point range and 19-of-21 at the charity stripe.

The teams exchanged leads four times in the first half and were tied 23-23 at halftime. The Colonels led 41-33 with 8:47 left, but the Warriors went on a 9-0 run with five points coming from Estrella Flores and four from Heather Prowse.

The combatants would trade leads several times late in the game, but Centre took a 53-49 lead with 22 seconds left. Sophomore center Sara Dyslin put back a missed three-pointer on Hendrix' next possession with 17 seconds left to make it a two-point game. Alexis Guy for the Colonels went 1-of-2 at the line with 15 seconds left before Warrior senior point guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler buried a three-pointer to tie the game up with seven ticks left.

Guy went to the line to make two more free with two seconds left. Hendrix' final shot was short, allowing Centre to escape with the upset win.

Hendrix only committed eight turnovers, and Centre had nine. The Warriors had a 45-42 rebounding edge.

Hendrix Notes
- It was the final game in the careers of Kriesel-Bigler, Flores and Katy Gallien.
- Prowse led the Warriors with 16 points.
- Flores finished with 11 points, two steals and tied her career-high with five assists.
- Kriesel-Bigler scored five points with seven rebounds and four assists. She ends her career with 445 assists, three short of the school record.
- Gallien scored eight points.
- Dyslin recorded eight points, 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks.
- Sophomore center Madison Martin had four points and six boards off the bench.

Centre Notes
- Guy scored 32 points and went 15-of-17 at the free throw line.
- Kaitlyn McKnight had six points and nine rebounds.
- Paige Kellam came off the bench for five points, eight boards and two assists.
